The Mystery of the Light

I would like to start by saying God's light always shines through in the end.

My journey to making myself right in the eyes of God is still very much so taking place. As long as I live, I will be in the midst of that journey. I've been seeking God whole heartedly for a few years now. I've slipped quite a few times, but I began really trying to know God more for myself during the beginning of the pandemic, in 2020. I started reading the bible more, I wanted to understand God through his word. I read through Genesis and Exodus in about a months time. I made it easier for myself by purchasing an NLT translation of the Bible so that I could understand what was being said and not get lost in the thick of the language. Reading Genesis was like reading about my own rebirth. It's why if I'm ever asked by a person where should they start in the Bible I will always tell them to start in the beginning. It's beautiful. The imagery of God's hand over the entirety of creation is something that I will always love about how I experienced reading it that first time. You see it in the instance of what scientist call the Big Bang, but what the Bible refers to as God simply speaking light into the darkness.

Genesis story of light touches my soul on so many levels because around the time of my mother's passing in 2021 I was not only searching for God in the Bible but also in science documentaries. Now science has a special appeal to my heart. I found Him there, in the most beautiful of places. While watching my favorite science docu-series "The Cosmos" hosted by Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, I inadvertently saw God through something that Dr. Tyson was teaching. He taught about light in it's most elemental levels as photons, and then went on to explain how something strange happens when scientist in the quantum field try to understand light in it's most elemental levels. Apparently something sort of scary but incredibly puzzling happens. Light acts as a wave and as a particle dependent on whether or not it is observed by someone on the quantum level. It shouldn't be both, but somehow it is. You should never be able to do an experiment the exact same way and get two different outcomes dependent on whether the experiment was observed. But quantum scientist have been getting particles or waves depending on if they watched the experiment take place.

When Dr. Tyson explained this in the series, I immediately thought of John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

There will never be a wonder in my heart of why scientist can't break the mystery of light, because, Jesus is light. Light is God. It's more advanced than any human could ever fathom.

When science led me to God I knew that I was safe and protected by God. Because the world will tell you that science opposes God, but what it really does is break down God's creation to a human understanding. Where we can take bits and pieces of God's creation and allow our knowledge and understanding of it to do our bidding, but also be thankful to a loving God that allows that human understanding of his universe in the first place. We are in awe of God's creation because of this.

The mystery of light, is beautiful because I can see it as the mystery of God. Light was the first thing God spoke into the universe. It's the thing that brought creation into fruition. Without light we would never be able to see, to hear, to think, to feel. Light is warming, it is healing, it is spiritually calming and filling.

We experience life through light. When Jesus says in John 8:12 "whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." he means that he will fill there life with light. Even when darkness tries to overtake they will see the light of God somewhere and they will know where to walk. Where to go.

In the depths of the ocean, where the sunlight doesn't penetrate, there is still light. Bioluminescence is when an organism emanates light from within it's own self. God went so far as to light the darkest depths of the earth where the sun couldn't get to. He was that mindful that light was needed everywhere in his creation. Thank God for his mindfulness. Thank God for his understanding and grace toward his creation. Thank God that he wants to take himself throughout the depths of the earth, that He in all His infinite wisdom does not abandon his creation to the darkness. Thank God for light. thank God that he didn't just say, let there be light and the end. He placed the light where it should be and the darkness where it should be. Those of us who seek light can find it even in the pits of complete darkness, light the size of a needle head has the power to scatter the darkness and draw us in. Thank God for that.

A prayer.

Thank you Heavenly Father for your love, your unfailing grace, and your mercy that comes new with every morning. Thank you for your light of the night, the moon that guides pathways and oceans through the night. Thank you for the sun that lights up the day. Thank you that both are ever faithful to rise and set bringing new days and new nights to your people of the earth. Thank you that you sent your son to bring another light to the earth and to die for us, but leave behind that light that we can carry and hand off to others just by the mention of the name of Jesus. Thank you that the mystery of light doesn't have to be solved in order for us to reap the spiritual harvest that it has created. Thank you for the constant of the light you pour into the believers life. Your light is Good and perfectly dazzling, revealing, healing, and filling us up constantly. Thank you for being in the light.

In Jesus Name I Pray,

Amen.
